OVERVIEW
The Washington DC Metro Area Alumni Chapter awards multiple scholarship to area students that have been accepted to the University or, are currently enrolled at FVSU. Fort Valley State University is one of Georgia’s three public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the state’s only 1890 land-grant institution. We recognize the difficulty one may experience to succeed in college. The chapter provides its awards recipients with the support and assistance needed to succeed in order to ensure that more students have the opportunity to earn a college degree.
Due to the financial generosity of FVSU Alumni, Friends, and Family, the Washington DC Metro Area Alumni Chapter is pleased to offer two scholarships and technological assistance to support students’ collegiate goals.
-
The “General Scholarship”, an initiative provided by the Washington DC Metro Area Alumni Chapter through our annual fundraising initiatives, recognizes students who aspire to attend FVSU and strive to serve as positive role models and change the trajectories for their families, friends and their communities.
-
The “Live Your Dream” Scholarship Award, an initiative provided by alumna, Dr. Genevieve M. Knight, Ph.D. (Class of 1961), recognizes students who have overcome significant obstacles to pursue an education in Mathematics, the Sciences and Education.
-
In addition to providing scholarships, Washington DC Metro Area Alumni Chapter is pleased to offer “Laptops for Leaders”, an addendum package, awarded singularly to recipients, of technology made available to scholarship winners that express a need for this support.
We’re sadden on the passing of our fallen Wildcat, Dr. Genevieve Knight. Her life and contribution to our alumni chapter and to the students that have benefited from her scholarship will continue to be a true testament to her love for her alma mater. In lieu of flowers, the family of Dr. Genevieve Knight is requesting donations and contributions to be made to this scholarship in her honor.
